Pierre Charles is a Los Angeles-based film composer and jazz pianist. He began his life in music receiving mentorship from Dr. Ron Carter, Victor Goines, and Ellis Marsalis, all prominent figures in the jazz community. Charles began his professional career performing with notable names such as Rodney Whitaker, Michael Dease, Sean Dobbins, Diego Rivera, Randy Napolean, Brian Lynch, Louis Hayes, Jimmy Cobb, and Etienne Charles, to name a few. His newest instrumental album, titled “Better”, released in November 2017 and charted in the top 50 iTunes Jazz Charts upon its release.

It was in 2016 when Charles began writing music for motion picture. From 2016 to 2018, he scored 4 independent shorts films. Run Jump Paddle, a documentary depicting the careers of three outdoor athletes, won a 2017 Michigan Emmy Award in the Human Interest category. Charles currently works for Emmy-winning film composer Kris Bowers, where he has contributed music to the Netflix series Raising Dion (2019) and Season 3 of Netflix's Dear White People (2019). Charles has also worked on ABC's For The People, Showtime's Black Monday, and Netflix's When They See Us.

Charles received his Bachelor of Music in Jazz Studies from Michigan State University and his Master of Music degree from the University of Southern California.
